Navigating the Word Game Wormhole
If you haven’t already discovered Wordle, purchased by the New York Times earlier this year from a Welsh software engineer named Josh Wardle, whatever does your family texting group discuss? Just in case you don’t know already, Wordle is a daily game that lets you guess a random word in 6 tries, giving you hints along the way (mustard yellow for a correct letter in the wrong position, and green for the correct letter in its proper place). Many commentaries have popped up about this game, from the NYT’s WordleBot: Improve Your Wordle Strategy to daily articles from Tomsguide, Mashable, Newsweek, and Forbes.
If you’ve dumped Spelling Bee to embrace Wordle — which doesn’t take as long to play! — or play both now (sharing the solution [or lack thereof] with your family or friend texting group), along the way you might have stumbled upon more games . . . and even more.
I am now in two Spanish Wordle text groups. Like Wordle, there is just one game to play daily. However, since I am not fluent in Spanish, I am constantly trying random letter combinations that don’t make words. Still, I am currently on a 21-day streak (who knew that zorro was an actual word? Not I!). GamerJournalist, UpPolice.org, and ParisBeacon.com — among others — all offer daily clues.
