Consider the Source . . . of the Funding of an Organization — Not Just Its Name

You would think that the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity would be a nice lefty institution — but think again! It is, in fact, a right-wing think tank whose primary focus is repealing the Affordable Care Act. An associate member of the State Policy Network, it is chiefly funded by right-wing billionaire Charles Koch.

And the Realities of Single Payer lobbying group is backed by — surprise, surprise — the insurance industry, whose profits depend on the lack of a single-payer system. It has been vocal in trashing the idea of a single-payer system, and it is funded by big pharma, billionaires, and other entities who are all members of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. This lobbying group has been on the side of big business for many years, creating offshoots/front groups with feel-good names that hide anti-worker sentiments. Behind the scenes, they work to fight the raising of the minimum wage, expand fracking, roll back tenants’ rights, and make sure gig workers don’t qualify as employees.¹
