Avenues to Explore If You’re “Poor”

First off, if you qualify, the Affordable Connectivity Program is a government program that pays your internet company up to $30 off your internet rate. https://www.fcc.gov/acp Even if you don’t qualify by income, if you are enrolled in other government programs (SSI, veteran’s benefits, veteran’s survivor benefits, or Pell Grants), you would be eligible as well.

If you have a landline or a mobile phone, you can also look into Lifeline. If you qualify for the ACP, you will also qualify for this. https://www.fcc.gov/general/lifeline-program-low-income-consumers

The people who get the best rates are the new customers. And if you transfer your service, you’ll miss out on that sweet new promotional rate. There is a one-time activation fee ($30), but you will more than make that up with the money you will save with your new promotional rate, and you more than likely would have had to pay an activation fee for your transfer, so transferring is a colossal waste of money.
